European mental health groups unite to issue call to action on metabolics in mental health
 
And leading clinicians name UNITE Survey a ‘wake up call to psychiatry’
PARIS, September 16th:
GAMIAN-Europe and EUFAMI today issued a call for action to address a growing crisis for people with mental illness – the relentless increase in CHD risk in this population. The statement followed presentation of the results of one of the largest ever global patient and carer surveys in psychiatry . It was echoed by demands for the clinical community to urgently address the physical health of their patients, by leading international clinicians who dubbed the results ‘staggering’.

Advate’s safety profile confirmed
 
August 10th 2006 – The MHRA has announced the removal of Advate’s (Octocog Alfa Recombinant Coagulation Factor VIII) black triangle symbol, confirming its risk/benefit balance.  The move marks the end of a period of detailed surveillance following the UK launch of Advate, the first and only haemophilia therapy without blood-based additives used for the prevention and control of bleeding episodes in people with haemophilia A.

Baxter and Jerini advance program to develop non-intravenous Hemophilia therapy
 
Deerfield, Ill. and Berlin, Germany, May 18, 2006 – Baxter AG and Jerini AG today announced progress in their collaborative research program to develop a non-intravenous therapy for the treatment of hemophilia. Extensive in vitro and in vivo analysis has identified several synthetic lead molecules with promising pharmacological properties.

EU committee recommends that the Commission give EU marketing authorisation for a promising new osteoporosis drug from Nycomed. Preotact® strengthens and rebuilds bones enabling osteoporosis suffers a better chance of avoiding debilitating bone fractures.

Roskilde, 23 February 2006; Today, the treatment of osteoporosis took an important step forward when The European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, CHMP, recommended the Commission to give Nycomed an EU marketing authorization for a promising new drug against “the silent disease”, osteoporosis.
